You have prayed. You have fasted. You may have attended programmes, received prophetic words, and still returned home wondering: “But what exactly am I supposed to do with my life?”

I am a Nigerian professional. Husband to Sarah. Father of two. And for most of my adult life, I carried exactly the weight you may be carrying right now.

Here Is My Story — Because It Might Be Yours

For fifteen years, I worked in oil and gas procurement.

The salary was good. The title was respectable. On paper, I had arrived — a senior executive position, a company car, children in a good school, a comfortable life by any reasonable measure.

Privately, I had not slept peacefully in years.

Because underneath all of it was a man who had not answered the most important question he had ever been asked: Why are you here?

Eventually, I made a decision that everyone around me thought was madness. I resigned from my position. Not for a better offer. Not for another company. I walked away to find out who I actually was — and what I was actually made for.

The season that followed was the most financially frightening and spiritually clarifying of my life.

What I Had Already Tried

Let me be honest about my search — because you may recognise yourself in it.

I tried business. I poured resources into ventures that generated some income but never produced meaning. Deep down, I always knew they were not mine.

I pursued additional qualifications — believing that more credentials would unlock the clarity. I completed them, added them to my CV, and felt exactly as purposeless afterward. I had confused credentials with calling.

I attended purpose conferences — three or four major ones specifically focused on destiny and calling. I left each one inspired for about two weeks. Then the routine swallowed everything. Emotion without architecture.

I read everything I could find — John Maxwell, Myles Munroe, TD Jakes. I could discuss purpose intelligently in any room. But reading about purpose and actually living in it are two entirely different experiences.

I spent seasons in extended prayer and fasting, asking God specifically for clarity. I received impressions and quiet nudges. But without a framework to process what God was showing me, those impressions dissolved before they ever became decisions.

The Night That Changed Everything

It was a Tuesday night. I was scrolling Facebook — the familiar aimlessness of a man who is tired but cannot settle — when I came across a plain-text post. No graphic. No hype. Just words:

“If you are a Nigerian in your thirties or forties and you still cannot answer the question ‘what were you made for?’ without deflecting — this post is for you.”

I stopped scrolling.

The man behind that post was Coach Taiwo Adegboyega — a Port Harcourt-based former oil and gas procurement manager who had spent fifteen years in a corporate career, walked away from a senior executive role to find his purpose, and now helps other Nigerians do the same through his online coaching practice.
